Hawai‘i’s New State Hospital – Safe, Secure and Therapeutic

Abstract:

This session will provide an account of the design-build process employed at the Hawai‘i State New Patient Facility and highlight how the design-build goals were achieved at the new facility, which was delivered from design through construction in under three years.  The presenters will detail how to successfully partner for optimal outcomes. The New Patient Facility was delivered within a design-build collaboration between architects G70 and KMD with general contractor Hensel Phelps working for the Hawai‘i State Department of Administration and General Services (DAGS) and Department of Health (DOH). This partnership resulted in innovation in project delivery, design and construction, and a state-of-the-art facility that meets the design-build goals: Safe, secure and therapeutic.
