Abstract:
In this first-of-its-kind gathering, PBX Hawai‘i, together with AIA Honolulu, BIA Hawai‘i and GCA of Hawai‘i, are excited to present “Meeting of the Minds,” a hosted industry luncheon event taking place during PBX22. Leaders from half a dozen local trade industry organizations will share their unique perspectives in a discussion about current building industry priorities and concerns and a post-pandemic outlook.

Jim Nicolow has committed his career to transforming the built environment through leadership and collaboration on significant deep green projects; sustainability education and advocacy; and leadership and mentorship. A principal and Director of Sustainability for Atlanta-headquartered Lord Aeck Sargent Planning and Design, Jim leads the effort to incorporate sustainable design strategies and features into the firm’s design projects nationally and has successfully led the LEED certification for more than 80 projects ranging from certified level through platinum. Jim was elevated to LEED Fellow in 2012 and AIA Fellow in 2018.

Holly Beard, an entomologist by trade, is a senior technical sales and research associate for Polyguard Products’ TERM Barrier Systems. Holly’s background is 10 years in Entomology with the last 5 years focusing on building envelope systems and subterranean termite barriers with Polyguard. She is drawn to specifications and waterproofing systems that incorporate subterranean termite exclusion as integrated pest management representation in the building envelope. Managing research projects and participating in building code committees, she ensures code updates include integrated pest management tactics surrounding the building envelope.
Graduating from the University of Florida with her B.S. and M.S. in Entomology, Holly has experience with insect pests and how to prevent them. She is a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve as an Entomologist and Preventive Medicine Officer. Based in Honolulu, HI, Holly is a member of AIA Honolulu and CSI Honolulu.

Dale Sakamoto Yoneda

Dale Sakamoto Yoneda is president of S & M Sakamoto, Inc., one of Hawai‘i’s leading diversified construction firms. Dale is the third generation in her family to lead the business founded by her grandfather and his brothers. She has served in various positions over her 30 years with the company, including project engineer and project manager, in both the commercial and government market sectors.
Dale is the current president of the General Contractors Association of Hawai‘i, the largest construction association in the State of Hawaii, representing over 500 members across the island chain. A champion of workforce development, she serves on the State of Hawai‘i Apprenticeship Council and the Board of Directors for Hawaii Construction Career Days, a nonprofit organization that introduces high school students to the career opportunities available in the construction industry. Dale also serves on the board of trustees for numerous union trust funds: Hawaii Carpenters Apprenticeship & Training Fund, Hawaii Carpenters Market Recovery Fund, Masons Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committee, Masons Pension & Annuity Fund, and Masons Industry Stabilization Fund. Dale is a graduate of the University of Hawai‘i and has a degree in Business Administration.

Jenny is a multiple, award-winning, dedicated, and creative interior design professional with an excellent eye for detail and a solid track record for client satisfaction. She is enthusiastic for all things in art and design, and with over 22 years of experience, Jenny has worked across multiple industries in conceptual design, space planning, and client leadership.
She is a Senior Interior Designer for Stantec with a specialty in architecture and interior design services focusing on healthcare and commercial interiors. Her clients have spanned across California and Hawai‘i regions and includes Kaiser Permanente, Scripps Clinic, Hoag Hospital, Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland, Little Company of Mary, The Queen’s Medical Center, and Hawaii Pacific Health. She has developed sustainable, master interior finish and furniture standards for multiple healthcare facilities and commercial offices.
Jenny is in her third year as President for the Hawaii Pacific Chapter of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA). She is also a recent inductee of Marquis Who’s Who in America.

Nimr Tamimi is a lifelong resident of Hilo and a licensed Mechanical Engineer and Principal/CEO of Engineering Partners, a Hilo based multidiscipline A/E firm with offices in Las Vegas and Manila. Mr. Tamimi has been practicing engineering in Hawai‘i for over 34 years, primarily as a design consultant in the building industry. His experience spans the State of Hawai‘i, Continental US and Pacific Rim. Mr. Tamimi has served as president and on the board of various professional and business organizations.
