Them Codes They Are A-Changing – Hawai‘i IBC 2018: What Architects Need to Know

Abstract:

This seminar provides background on significant changes to design requirements in the 2018 IBC along with local code amendments that can sometimes add confusion to the design process. This includes major changes to wind and earthquake requirements along with a new design twist – the requirement of tsunami design considerations.

Information is provided on the construction cost increases of these code changes and their impact on providing affordable housing in Hawai‘i.  Discussion includes the advantages and disadvantages of the State Building Code Council and the local amendments process along with changes that have been proposed to the State Building Code Council including moving to a 6-year code cycle.
