Abstract:
This session will concentrate on the design and construction aspects of RISE, a Public Private Partnership (PPP) project in conjunction with Hunt Development Group, the University of Hawaiʻi Foundation and the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. The development is a new mixed-use student housing facility combined with an innovation and entrepreneurship center. The project set to be completed next spring is a mixed-use live/work space for University students to collaborate, create, and build their own startup companies from this new dormitory residence space. The project features 220 dorm units with 374 beds in ~140,000 gross square feet of space. The amenities for both the residents and University students include a 100-seat classroom, two maker spaces, study rooms, a sound room, an auditorium / flex space, amenity roof deck, as well as leasable office space and a food & beverage operator.
Through the utilization of a PPP, the project is able to secure funding and expedite this much-needed residence without burdening taxpayer money. RISE consists of new construction as well as utilizes a nearly 100-year old historic building, re-purposing its use for future generations of students to enjoy.
